Epoxy Flooring
Our Epoxy/Polyurethane Garage Floor Coatings will beautify that ugly dusty concrete floor in your garage! Ultimate Garage Works offers two flooring systems. Our most popular floor, the "Simulated Granite Epoxy Flooring System", consists of 100% broadcast polyvinyl chips to give your garage floor that beautiful, rich, seamless "granite-look", or our "Simulated Quartz Epoxy Flooring System", which combines colored quartz aggregate and epoxy to give you a garage floor with the ultimate in performance, longevity, and appearance. Both of these floors are low maintenance and easy to clean.
About Our Simulated Granite Epoxy Flooring
This floor system is by far our most popular floor. It starts out with a 100% solids epoxy primer coat, followed by a clear coating in which we broadcast 100% coverage of decorative polyvinyl color chips. Topped off with a protective clear finish of epoxy and a final urethane topcoat. Because of it's urethane protectant topcoat, this flooring system is resistant to chemicals, abrasion, and UV rays. This flooring system takes approximately 4 days to install.
About Our Simulated Quartz Epoxy Flooring
A clear epoxy and quartz aggregate are combined to create a flooring surface that is as decorative as it is durable. Non-skid surface intended for heavy floor traffic areas. This floor is easy to clean, and because of it's urethane protectant topcoat, is also resistant to abrasion, oil, gasoline, acids, and solvents. This flooring system has two more layers of epoxy than the Simulated Granite Epoxy floor and takes approximately 5 days to install.

At Custom Home Painting & Carpet, quality does make a difference!
Our floors are not the cheapest you can find. Why? Because at Ultimate Garage Works, we use top quality industrial products. Dura-Poxy is our strongest floor covering. It consists of 100% solid epoxy which gives it maximum strength and no-odor application. Click here for a chart of Dura-Poxy basic colors.

Dura-Poxy with color quartz has a test strength of 22,000 lbs. per sq. inch in contrast to that of concrete which ranges from 2500 to 4500 lbs. per sq. inch depending on the mix.

The Dura-Poxy catalyst is a special "wet surface catalyst" meaning that it will harden even in water. This can be advantageous for facilities like bottlers and food processors that may have water spill during the curing process. It also means that Dura-Poxy can be used to make repairs in areas that may have spills or water flow.

Stones and other colored materials such as quartz can be mixed into Dura-Poxy to produce a wide variety of terrific looks. Great applications for color quartz are high skid areas like bath, pool, freezer, steps, and other slip-prone areas. The surface is harder than steel so steel wheels will not wear it out. It is more resistant to heat than epoxy by itself. Click here for a chart of available quartz colors.

Here are several common uses for Dura-Poxy:

Repair
Heavy-body Dura-Poxy contains thickeners and is thick like molasses for use like putty in floor cracks and holes. It can be floated on to the floor as well. Cures in about 6 hours.

Thin-body Dura-Poxy can be mixed with color quartz to the consistency of peanut butter and trawled onto floors or walls. Curing time is about 12 hours. One gallon of Dura-Poxy plus 28 pounds of color quartz makes about 1.7 cubic feet of material.

Flow coating
Dura-Poxy can be flow coated onto clean room floors and floors that must have no odor while applying, like office spaces. One gallon covers about 125 to a maximum of 150 sq. ft. and is applied at about 10 mil. One coat is theoretically enough but because of application inconsistencies, it is best to plan on two coats. Takes 12 to 15 hours to cure. It is extremely important to mix for three minutes with good mixer to assure that the cure is good on all Dura-Poxy products. Note that Dura Poxy hardens in the can in about 20 to 40 minutes depending on how warm the area is. Warmer temperatures result in a shorter time-to-harden.

Color quartz type floors
Extremely durable and beautiful floors can be created by applying Dura-Poxy to the floor followed by sprinkling a blend of color quartz onto the Dura-Poxy.

The color quartz is a mineral close to diamonds in hardness. This means that steel wheels and other machinery are in contact with a surface that is harder then steel. The steel wheel will wear from friction, not the floor. A color quartz floor is virtually forever.

Melting temperature is 500 degrees F and produces CO2. If you have stones showing in your concrete you can level the floor surface to an even surface by flowing Dura Poxy to be (for example) two inches thick in one area and 10 mils thick a few inches away. Adhesion is the same in both areas and compression strength is also the same in both areas.

After hardening, you simply sweep and vacuum off the excess quartz. A clear or colored top coat is then applied. A squeegee with liquid may be used to fill holes and irregularities. If there are bad areas, they can be troweled in before putting on the topcoat. There is no need to wait for troweled areas to cure before applying the topcoat. Dura-Seal may be applied over Dura-Poxy any time after it is cured for other colors, looks, or repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you prepare the floor for epoxy coating?
Concrete preparation is critical to overall floor performance. We first degrease the concrete. Then, we fill in all holes, pits, and cracks in the concrete. After repairing, we shot blast the concrete and hand grind the vertical areas. Then we clean and make sure the concrete is dust free and ready for the primer coat.

Some companies use acid to prep the floor, why don't you?
We shot blast all of our floors. While acid is a less expensive method for profiling the floor, epoxy flooring materials bond to concrete with a rough sandpaper finish. This finish cannot be achieved by acid etching. When you etch the concrete, you attack the cement that holds the concrete together. This weakens the substrate and so reduces the quality of the overall system, which in turn, affects adhesion in the future. Ecologically unsound, acid is washed into your yard and plants, to end up in our lakes and streams.

What is shot blasting?
Shot blasting consists of attacking the surface of a material with one of many types of shot. Normally this is done to remove something on the surface such as scale, but it is also done sometimes to impart a particular surface to the object being shot blasted. The shot can be sand, small steel balls of various diameters, granules of silicon carbide, etc. Our shot blaster uses small steel shot.

How long can I expect my epoxy floor to last?
Your floor should last about 15-20 years under normal circumstances. In about 7 years, you may require a new polyurethane topcoat to maintain that glossy look.

Do you have a warranty?
All of our garage floors are warranted for one year from installation on any peeling, staining, or material defects.

Can anything damage my new floor?
Any object dropped on your floor strong enough to break the concrete can damage the epoxy.

How long can I expect to be out of my garage?
On our simulated granite epoxy floors, installation takes 4 days. We recommend foot traffic and light item move in in two days, vehicle traffic in five days after that. Our simulated quartz flooring has more layers, therefore takes approximately 5 days for installation, with foot traffic in 3 and vehicle traffic 7 days after that.

I just want a solid color epoxy floor...do you do those?
We do not do solid colored epoxy flooring. Most customers want a floor that doesn't show the dirt...solid color floors are high maintenance, and show all of the dirt, dust, leaves, bugs, pet hairs, foot prints, etc. They also magnify any defects in your concrete.

I don't see a color I like...can I get something else?
The colors shown are our standard colors. We can do special colors, but they are an extra charge.

I have an old car that leaks fluids...can I park it on my new floor without worrying about staining?
Absolutely! With the addition of the polyurethane coating, your floor is resistant to many chemicals, including urine, coffee, alcohol, gasoline, motor oil, brake fluids, mineral spirits and many others. Simply wipe clean with a cloth.

Any special cleaning required?
Simply dust or sweep your floor. For heavier cleaning, damp mop with a light ammonia mixture. Soap is not recommended, as it can make your floor slippery.

One more thing! What about hot tire pull-up?
With proper preparation of your concrete, you should not experience hot tire pull-up.
